Tax Extension Dead

(Springfield, IL) -- Governor Pat Quinn was holding out hope for extending the income tax rate, but that's apparently not going to happen. House Speaker Michael Madigan says the plan is dead and he's urging state representatives to come up with a "middle-of-the road" budget. It'll be a compromise between budget deals that keep the rate in place and slash funding for education and social services. Lawmakers have until midnight Saturday to get a budget passed.
