Burglaries On West Side Of Canton Being Investigated (Canton, IL) -- Canton police are looking into two burglaries that occurred on the west side of Canton recently. Authorities say they happened between the evening of June 3rd and the early morning hours of June 4th. One occurred at Orwig Auto Body located at 1098 West Locust Street and the second occurred at Davis Sand & Gravel located at 1130 West Locust Street. In both burglaries there was forced entry and an undetermined amount of cash was taken. State Police Crime Technicians have been brought in to help Canton police with the investigation. Canton Woman Charged With Domestic Battery (Canton, IL) -- A Canton woman is facing charges after police were dispatched to a domestic situation earlier this week in the north end of Canton. Canton police say they responded to 55 East Cypress Street at the County Club Estates Apartments in regard to the situation Monday afternoon at about 3:15. The police report indicated that a resident, 20-year old Kaleigh A. Pokorny was arguing with management at the apartment complex in regard to bicycles that management was throwing into the trash dumpster. Pokorny then started to argue with a 21-year old Canton man. She allegedly punched him in the mouth with her fist. Police then arrested her. Pokorny was taken to the Canton Police Department where she was processed on a domestic battery charge. She was later taken to the Fulton County Jail in Lewistown. Domestic Disturbance Results In Canton Woman’s Arrest (Canton, IL) -- Canton police arrested a Canton woman following a domestic disturbance earlier this week. Police say they went to an address in the 1200 block of East Elm Street Monday night at just after 8:30. Police say 35-year old Sara J. Hammond allegedly stabbed the victim, a 39-year old Canton man in the back with a fork. Police say that holes in the back of the victims shirt were consistent with a stabbing where a fork was used. The victim also had minor scratches on his back. Hammond denied that she stabbed the victim. After an investigation, Hammond was arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department where she was processed on a domestic battery charge. She was later taken to the Fulton County Jail in Lewistown. Canton Man Allegedly Violates Order of Protection (Canton, IL) -- A Canton man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly violated an order of protection. Canton police say they were dispatched to the 800 block of South 2nd Avenue early Monday morning at about 1:45 for a domestic disturbance. The victim, a 24-year old Canton female told police that she woke up and found her ex-boyfriend sitting in the living room of the residence. The man was identified as 28-year old Jeremy D. Funches. The victim told authorities that Funches allegedly jumped on her in the bed, wanting her cell phone and that there was also an order of protection against Funches at the address. By the time police arrived, Funches had left the scene. The female victim was found to have bruises on her arms and breast. Police were able to locate Funches later on Monday afternoon at just before 5:30 near the intersection of North Avenue A and West Locust Street. Funches was arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department where he was processed on charges of domestic battery and violating an order of protection. He was later taken to the Fulton County Jail in Lewistown. Peoria Teen Sentenced For Shooting Last Year At Peoria High School (Peoria, IL) -- A teen from Peoria who was arrested last year in connection with the shooting of a student from Peoria High School was in Peoria County Circuit Court on Wednesday. 19-year old Quantrey King was sentenced to 7 years of prison time. King will be required to serve 85-percent of his sentence. He will, however, be given credit for nearly a year that he has spent in jail. King entered a guilty plea to a charge of aggravated discharge of a firearm back in April. He was charged after police found a 17-year old just a few blocks from Peoria High School with a single gunshot wound and was lying face down on the ground. As a result of that shooting, security measures were taken by Peoria School District 150 with increased security at the school. Village Trustee From Bartonville Found Not Guilty (Peoria, IL) -- A village trustee from Bartonville on trial in Peoria County Circuit Court in a five county indictment was found not guilty on Wednesday. A Peoria County Jury found 42-year old Scott Helms not guilty on arson and aggravated arson charges. Three other charges were dismissed. The charges all stem from a fire that occurred last July at the Pennsylvania Terrace Apartments. Helms current term on the Bartonville Village Board runs through May of 2017.
