Unes Sponsored Bill Signed By Governor Quinn
(Springfield, IL) -- Governor Pat Quinn signed a bill that was sponsored by the legislator that represents the 91st District in the Illinois State House. Mike Unes of East Peoria's bill makes it a crime of official misconduct for an employee of a law enforcement agency to tip off a criminal of pending law enforcement action against them. According to State Representative Unes, the bill was necessary because of a 2010 Illinois Supreme Court decision that a 9-1-1 dispatcher tipping off a criminal of pending law enforcement action was not an act the employee could be charged criminally for committing. Unes' Bill now makes that act a crim4e and it would be a Class 3 Felony that is punishable by between 2 and 5 years of jail time for a police dispatcher or any other employee of a law enforcement agency to knowingly inform a criminal of pending law enforcement action against them. Governor Quinn signed the Bill on Friday afternoon.
