Canton Man Facing Drug Related Charges

(Canton, IL) -- A Canton man is facing charges after police stopped three individuals riding their bikes earlier this week in the early morning hours. Police say they stopped the three in area of North 11th Avenue and East Locust Street Tuesday morning at just before 1 because the bicycles did not have lights on them. All three were given verbal warnings for not having lights on their bikes. During their investigation, police found 21-year old Andrew J. Kaufman to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department where Kaufman was processed on a charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He was given a notice to appear and released. Kaufman has a September Fulton County Court date in Lewistown.

Downtown Canton Bar Disturbance Leads To Arrest Of London Mills Man

(Canton, IL) -- A London Mills man is facing charges after an incident that occurred at a downtown Canton tavern. Police say they were dispatched to Jack's Bar located on East Elm Street Tuesday morning at just before 1:30 on a criminal damage complaint. An investigation into the matter discovered that 35-year old Eric L. Laswell allegedly kicked the front door of the bar and caused the window in the door to shatter. The value of the door was placed at over $300. Laswell was arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department to be processed on a charge of criminal damage to property over $300. He was unable to post bond and Laswell was later taken to the Fulton County Jail in Lewistown.

Canton Woman Arrested For Valid Warrant

(Canton, IL) -- A Canton woman wanted on a valid warrant was arrested over the weekend in Canton. Police say they were dispatched to an address in the 900 block of West Walnut Street Saturday night at just after 10:45 in regard to a verbal domestic situation. While at the address, police discovered that 37-year old Laura L. Purtle was wanted on a 2013 Fulton County Warrant failure to appear contempt of court. Purtle was taken to the Canton Police Department where she was processed for the warrant. She posted a $100 cash bond and a $20 processing fee and was released. Purtle was given a September Fulton County Court date in Lewistown.
