Canton Man Charged With Retail Theft (Canton, IL) -- A Canton man is facing charges after allegedly taking items from a business on the north end of Canton. Police say they were dispatched to Walmart on Thursday, September 4th to meet with personnel from the store to look at surveillance videotape of a male taking items from the store. The male, who was identified in the video as 49-year old Monte J. Alderman is accused of taking an X-Box from the store on August 24th and a DVD player from Walmart on September 3rd. The X-Box was valued at $180 and the DVD player was valued at $28. Alderman was arrested at the Canton Police Department on Monday. He was processed on charges of two counts of retail theft. Alderman was given a notice to appear and released after being given an October Fulton County Court date in Lewistown. The property that he allegedly took from Walmart has been returned to the store.

Canton Man Arrested On Drug Charges (Canton, IL) -- A Canton man is facing drug charges after his arrest earlier this week. Police say that Tuesday morning at just after midnight they stopped a male walking in the 100 block of East Elm Street who appeared to be intoxicated. After stopping the man, identified as 59-year old George L. Clark. An investigation found that Clark was in possession of a plastic back that contained under 2.5 grams of pot. He was arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department where he was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis under 2.5 grams of marijuana. Clark posted a $120 cash bond and a $20 processing fee before being released. He was given an October Fulton County Court date in Lewistown.

Traffic Stop Leads To Canton Mans Arrest (Canton, IL) -- A Canton man is facing charges after a traffic stop that occurred near the intersection of North Main and Birch Streets. Police say they observed a vehicle being driven by 22-year old Roque D. Moreno. Officers knew that he did not have a valid driver's license. A traffic stop was then made. It was determined that Roque's driver's license had expired in 2011. He was arrested and taken to the Canton Police Department where he was processed on a charge of driving with an expired driver's license. Rogue was given a notice to appear and released after being given an October Fulton County Court date.

Chicago Man Sentenced On Murder and Arson Charges In Peoria (Peoria, IL) -- A Chicagoan was in Peoria County Circuit Court last week to be sentenced. Aunterrio Barney was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences in connection with the murder of four people. Barney was convicted of murder as well as arson for allegedly setting a fire four years ago that occurred on North University in Peoria. That fire killed four individuals, including a two year old. The case is being appealed. Barney has continually maintained his innocence.

Quincy Mom Ruled Fit For Jury Trial (Quincy, IL) -- A Quincy woman accused of locking her child in a basement will face a jury trial next month. An Adams County judge found 26-year-old Tricia Franklin fit to appear in court after a psychological exam. She was arrested in April and charged with unlawful restraint after police discovered her five-year-old son home alone, locked in the basement. The child is now in the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services. Franklin remains in Adams County Jail.

Child Sex Abuse Conviction Reversed For McHenry County Man (Chicago, IL) -- An appeals court has reversed the child sex abuse conviction of a McHenry County man and former Big Brothers volunteer. Fifty-four-year-old Leonard Puccini has been serving a five-year sentence for the bare-bottomed spanking of a 12-year-old-boy he met through the Big Brothers program. The appeals court ordered the conviction reversed because the trial judge mistakenly allowed testimony from two adult witnesses who claimed Puccini had once abused them. He will not be retried.
