Fourteen More Counties Have Emerald Ash Borer
(Undate) -- Fourteen more counties in Illinois have now been infested by the tree-killing emerald ash borer. The state agriculture department says there are now 50 Illinois counties with confirmed cases of trees that have been attacked by the green bug that as a larva burrows into ash tree bark, eventually killing the tree through starvation. Five of the newly-listed counties are outside the existing quarantine area where the removal of ash trees, including firewood, is banned. Logan and Menard counties are among the fourteen additional counties that have now been infested by the Emerald Ash Borer.
