Minimum Wage Showdown In Springfield

(Chicago, IL) -- Minimum wage workers in Illinois could be getting a raise next year. Lawmakers are pushing to raise the rate to ten-bucks-an-hour next year, but those who live in Chicago could get a bigger boost. The city council is expected to vote on a deal today that would raise the minimum wage to 13 dollars an hour over the next five years. City leaders are trying to beat lawmakers to the punch so they aren't restricted on keeping the lower rate once it's set in Illinois law. Some argue Chicago shouldn't have a higher minimum wage than the rest of the state, but Mayor Rahm Emanuel says it's necessary because the cost of living is higher in the big city.
